ISO 19443
The international quality management standard for organisations supplying products and services important to nuclear safety.
ISO 19443 applies the general ISO 9001 quality management framework to the nuclear supply chain, adding requirements specific to items and services important to nuclear safety: how safety significance is identified and graded, how counterfeit and fraudulent items are guarded against, and how a supplier demonstrates a safety culture rather than merely a documented process.
Its practical role is to give suppliers outside the traditional nuclear vendor base a recognised route in. A manufacturer already certified to ISO 9001 has a shorter path to ISO 19443 than to a full NQA-1 programme, and the certification is issued by accredited bodies, so it is a checkable fact rather than a self-declaration.
For supply-chain modelling it is one more approval with a scope attached, and it belongs in the same structure as everything else: the class of work covered, the site it names, and when it was last confirmed. It does not replace a buyer's own supplier qualification; it changes how much of that work has already been done.
